KARACHI: After Pakistan won the One-Day International (ODI) series against India 2-1, most Pakistanis weren’t too bothered regarding the recipient of the man-of-the-match award in the last ODI, even though most fans felt that Saeed Ajmal should have been rewarded for his superb five-wicket haul. However, reports have now emerged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pressured the jury deciding the man of the match to give the award to Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
If these reports are true, one wonders why the BCCI resorted to such a measure to boost the confidence of its blue-eyed boy. If it wanted to keep his confidence from being shattered then, perhaps, it was better to not play him against an in-form Pakistani side at all. Resorting to such a step displays only prejudice and lack of sportsman spirit. Such biases only serve to ruin the spirit of the game. I believe that we should only play India if complete impartiality is ensured in all matters.
