Is Dr Qadri a game-changer?

Letter December 30, 2012
His critics are now demanding that he declare his assets and reveal who funded his public meetin.

LAHORE: I wonder why our elite columnists and popular TV anchors are criticising Dr Tahirul Qadri’s return to Pakistan, instead of discussing the demands he has made. Shouldn’t the comment be related to what he has said rather than why he has returned? After all, isn’t his point that the current system, which allows only feudals and those from the landed elite to make it to parliament needs to be changed, a valid one? His critics are now demanding that he declare his assets and reveal who funded his public meeting, despite the fact that he already said in his speech that it was paid for by his supporters.

Is it not a fact that the military establishment has a major role in the country’s future and is in charge of its foreign and security policies? So what is so wrong in Dr Tahirul Qadri saying that the caretaker government that will conduct the next election should have approval of the military and the judiciary? Is it not true that the last five years of PPP rule have not brought any relief for ordinary Pakistanis and that the party has failed in providing good governance?
