Self-respect, not self-deprecation, is the first step in moving forward.
KARACHI: This is in reference to the article by Syed Talat Hussain “Get another passport” (September 1). The literate people of this country need to move from thinking in ideologues and meta narratives about good and evil, in order to make logical evaluations of the issues at hand. Dabbing the nation with a broad brush of failure was a surprisingly short-sighted move. Self-respect, not self-deprecation, is the first step in moving forward. What we witnessed was an exercise in anthropology with its sweeping cultural generalisations from a sample of less than two — a construct of the colonial mindset for the lesser nations of the world.
