If change is to come it will have to come from Punjab.
ABU DHABI: This is with reference to Ayesha Siddiqa’s article “The Green Revolution” (September 7). A large part of the Pakistani middle class can be found in central Punjab, if change is to come it will have to come from Punjab. However, this doesn’t seem very possible or realistic because much of this area is heavily influenced by the biradari systems, divided along sectarian lines and has a strong presence of retired military personnel. So while what the writer has said is very well put and argued, it is really all that realistic.
