Preaching on TV

Letter September 09, 2010
Televangelism has been around for quite some time in all countries and major religions.

RAWALPINDI: This is in reference to the article “Televangelism, Pakistani style” by A A Sheikh (September 8). Televangelism has been around for quite some time in all countries and major religions. Have we forgotten about Billy Graham of the US? He is one of the pioneers of televangelism. Like any TV venture the aim is to make money. As good entrepreneurs they have identified the market and know what their target market like to see and participate in.

The bottom line is that that these people are satisfying the spiritual need of many by utilising their talent (music/singing). At the same time they are also making money. Intelligently they have diversified their basic skills. Not a bad idea if they are contributing usefully. These religious programmes are non-issues like so many other useless talk shows, soap operas, musical shows etc. So let’s not worry about it too much.
