Not honouring our heroes

Letter December 18, 2012
The committee needs to reconsider its decision to scrap the renaming of Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh.

BLOOMINGTON, IL, US: While I have great respect for Justice (retd) Khalil Ramday, the decision of the committee headed by him to rename roads in Lahore has forgotten to honour the memories of men who played a vital role in our freedom movement. With due respect, perhaps those who sit on this committee are unaware of the respect Allama Iqbal had for Bhagat Singh, a man who fought and laid down his life to resist occupation by the British Raj. The resolution moved by Allama Iqbal, Malik Barkat Ali and two other non-Muslim lawyers in the Lahore High Court Bar Association on June 19, 1930 bears testimony to the heroic role of Bhagat Singh.

The committee needs to reconsider its decision to scrap the renaming of Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh.
