CNG turmoil

Letter December 11, 2012
This tug of war between SC, Ogra and CNG dealers for fixing prices, is causing great inconvenience to public.

RAWALPINDI: The Supreme Court has once again ordered not to change CNG prices till December 17. At the same time, Ogra has been assigned the responsibility of fixing the final prices for CNG for various zones in the country. This tug of war between the apex court, Ogra and CNG dealers for fixing prices, revising them on protestations and then again partly accepting/rejecting them, is causing great inconvenience to motorists, motorcyclists, public transporters, rickshaw drivers and passengers.

The CNG dealers were not only happily selling CNG at Rs61 a kilo in July this year but most were also offering 10 to 20 per cent discounts as well on this price. One wonders as to why they are now protesting selling at this rate again. Did the government raise the price of gas supplied to CNG dealers during the post-July period? And if it did, then in all fairness, it must come clean and revert to the gas rates that were in force prior to July 2012.
