Open to public scrutiny

Letter December 09, 2012
Party workers who cannot tolerate criticism of their leaders have become like disciples of cults.

ALLEN, TX, US: Any individual who chooses to enter politics, especially those who head political parties, should be open to public scrutiny and have the tolerance for facing critical analysis of their assets, their lifestyle, tax records, and even their commitment to Pakistan.

Party workers who cannot tolerate criticism of their leaders have become like disciples of cults, and this kind of behaviour has no role in democratic politics. Political morality, a democratic ethos and a culture of tolerance have all become victims of these cult-like groupings, and these unfortunately seem to thrive in Pakistan. Civil servants must also be subjected to similar scrutiny and accountability.
