Corruption ranking

Letter December 04, 2012
Washington-based WJP released its 2012 Rule of Law Index, which ranks Pakistan as 7th-most corrupt country.

ISLAMABAD: It has been reported that the Washington-based World Justice Project has released its 2012 Rule of Law Index, in which Pakistan is ranked the seventh-most corrupt country, out of a total of 97 countries surveyed. The country also presents a dismal picture as far as human rights, civil and criminal justice, regulatory enforcement, check on government powers and transparency in government are concerned.

Some people may be dismayed over Pakistan’s ranking but they needn’t despair. Given the way the country’s rulers are ‘performing’, there may well be considerable ‘improvement’ in this ranking.
