Afridi's statement

Letter September 07, 2010
I think Afridi should focus on taking the current team to great heights and forget about the past.

MUMBAI: This is with reference to your report “Hameed is mentally 15, unreliable: Afridi” (September 6).  Yasir Hameed comes across as honest. Blaming him will rebound on Pakistan’s image.

I think Afridi should focus on taking the current team to great heights and forget about the past. Loyalty to the team is good, but loyalty to cricket is even more important. The perception of the Pakistani cricket team in the eyes of the rest of the world, and I suspect among many Pakistanis as well, is that it is a corrupt team, even though only a few people were caught. It is important to show impeccable loyalty to cricket and becoming angry with an obviously honest player for talking about corruption in his own team in this way is not a good thing for a captain. Perhaps Afridi  can tell Hameed to be discreet next time.
