ISLAMABAD: Bhagat Singh was a hero of the Indian independence movement, which led to the freedom from colonial rule of both India and Pakistan in 1947. At the age of 23, he was hanged by the British in 1931 at Fawwara Chowk in present-day Shadman in Lahore, for killing a British officer and for other acts aimed to rid his nation of oppression.
Let’s not make it a controversial issue for religious and political reasons and give due honour to Bhagat Singh’s memory by naming the chowk after him. The case filed in court stopping this renaming should be withdrawn by the petitioner.
