ISLAMABAD: Personnel of our law-enforcement agencies, especially the police and the Rangers, deserve a pat on the back for all the hard work they put in to provide security and protection to Muharram processions and mourners. The role of intelligence input is undoubtedly crucial in preventing terrorism. The media also played an important role in creating awareness for security purposes. Young volunteers who accompanied the processions in various cities and towns also deserve a special mention.
Some cynics are calculating the cost of the security measures, in particular the billions of rupees loss and inconvenience caused to the public because of the interior ministry’s decision to block cellphones. These are relevant observations but in my view, human life cannot be measured in terms of money.
