Sindh local government law

Letter November 09, 2012
Congress of writers and intellectuals was held in Hyderabad last week on the controversial Sindh local government law.

KARACHI: A congress of writers and intellectuals was held in Hyderabad last week on the controversial Sindh local government law. It was attended, among others, by Hussein Haroon and PPP MNA Syed Zafar Ali Shah. The aims of the congress were to support the struggle of the people of Sindh against the local bodies law imposed on them by the provincial government.

The meeting noted with concern that the implementation of the local bodies law that was recently passed by the provincial assembly would further widen the divide between the province’s rural and urban populations. It said that the government, especially the PPP, shouldn’t have bulldozed the legislation and should have taken into account the views of all stakeholders, especially the residents of the entire province.

One hopes that the government will pay heed to this.
