The rise and fall of Fayezah Ansari

Letter November 02, 2012
We must find it in our hearts to forgive and support people, instead of taunting and punishing them.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to the story “The rise and fall of Fayezah Ansari” (October 30). What a tragic story but one which gives so much hope and courage. What is almost always hurtful universally is the turning away of those people whom one considers to be close friends. I do not know how faithful or fickle the people in the fashion industry are, but I assume that they are the same as us ordinary mortals in terms of feelings and relationships.

Fayezah Ansari and Syed Muhammad Rizwanullah are brave to acknowledge their heroin addiction publicly and deserve our admiration and support as they seek rehabilitation. Our prayers are with them. May they shine as beacons for others who are dealing with similar problems. We must find it in our hearts to forgive and support people, instead of taunting and punishing them. After all, God forgives us everyday, too, so who are we to hold a grudge against any fellow human being?
