Unless these rivers are dammed at source, all temporary measures will be futile.
LAHORE: Mr Hashim Abro, in these columns, has been making fervent appeals to the government to pay heed to the miserable plight of flood victims in Sindh. In addition to this, long-term measures are also needed. It is only common sense that where there are rivers, there will be floods. Unless these rivers are dammed at source, all temporary measures will be futile.
Tarbela and Bhasha dams in the north cannot stop the floodwaters in the Kabul, Chitral, Swat, Haro and Soan rivers; only the Kalabagh dam in the south can do that. All that is needed is for common sense to prevail over ignorance.
