Afridi’s downfall

Letter October 15, 2012
The fact is that Afridi has become somewhat of a laughing stock when it comes to his batting.

LAHORE: It is distressing to see Shahid Afridi’s downfall as a batsman. Afridi, who holds several world records in batting, is now going through his decline. His performances, or the lack of them, in the past few matches have shaken up his fans and left them deeply disappointed. The fact is that Afridi has become somewhat of a laughing stock when it comes to his batting, which is really hard to swallow as a fan.

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell recently stated that Afridi has long been finished as a batsman. It is no wonder that Afridi, famous for being one of the most flamboyant all-rounders of recent times, is now being blamed for losing matches for the country, both by his critics and admirers. Question marks have arisen about his place in the national team. I believe he should take a break from cricket to regain his shattered self-confidence. Hopefully, this will give him time to recuperate from all the criticism that has come his way and he can then stage a comeback and show his hunger for success.
