Christian Aid and the Ekta Parishad march

Letter October 11, 2012
Writer’s assertion that Indian govt blocked foreign funds to Jan Satyagrah to cut off food supplies was incorrect.

NEW DELHI: This is with reference to Prakash Belawadi’s article “Rival roads to Delhi” (October 5). Though the coverage of the Ekta Parishad march was welcome, it should be noted that Christian Aid is just one of a number of organisations, both Indian and international, which support the movement. In addition, the writer’s assertion that the Indian government blocked foreign funds to Jan Satyagrah in a bid to cut off food supplies was incorrect. The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act prohibits the use of foreign funds for activities such as strikes and marches and this affected the funds available.
