Looking for justice

A 65-year-old relative of mine was recently killed by unknown men at Gulshan Chowrangi, Karachi.

KARACHI: A 65-year-old relative of mine was recently killed by unknown men at Gulshan Chowrangi, Karachi. He was in his car with his family when two teenage pillion riders stopped him and demanded that he give up his mobile phone and wrist watch. He immediately did as ordered but it took him around a minute to hand over the wrist watch. This angered the two criminals and they shot him and sped away.

This ugly incident has taken the life of an innocent man, and his wife and children are in deep shock. They know that there will be no investigation and the murderers will never be caught. The following day, newspapers reported the story of his killing. According to media reports, the police reportedly said that a 50-year-old man was killed by unknown men while he was eating a burger along with his friends.

This just goes to show the state of police investigations in the country. The police did not know what he was doing, what his age was and even his father’s name that they gave to newspapers was incorrect. When the police do not know such basic details, how can we ever hope that the murderers will be apprehended? It is now time to revamp the police department of Sindh, which is highly politicised and corrupt. The blood of innocent citizens must not go to waste and justice must be done.
