Diversification of foreign relations is something any country would want and Pakistan is no different.
ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your editorial of October 3 titled “Diversifying an isolationist policy”. Foreign policy, per se, is nothing but a depiction of the inner self of a state and is thus an amalgam of economic, commerce, trade, energy, defence, cultural, educational, media and other policies of the state.
Insofar as the impression given in the editorial that Russian President Vladimir Putin most likely postponed his visit because of a mismatch of thinking with the GHQ, which runs Pakistan’s foreign policy, one would beg to differ. Firstly, diversification of foreign relations is something any country would want and Pakistan is no different. Secondly, if Pakistan has adopted a policy of reviving its relations with Russia, then it should be assumed that the institutions of a state are onboard in this, including the military. Thirdly, the visit by Pakistan’s army chief shows quite clearly the resolve of the military on this matter.
