Against freeloading desis

Letter September 25, 2012
Indians are lucky enough to have books published by Cambridge, Oxford University Press at such reasonable prices.

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND: This is with reference to Aakar Patel’s article “Against freeloading desis” (September 23). The article highlighted the issue that the whole subcontinent faces. People here are used to getting things done at the others’ cost, hence the proclivity of buying pirated books or using photocopies of original ones.

One thing that amazed me after reading the article was that Indians are lucky enough to have books published by the Cambridge University Press and the Oxford University Press at such reasonable prices. Above all, the fact that newspapers in India cost just two or three rupees is quite incredible. In Pakistan, we pay significantly higher amounts compared with India.
