Rules should be strictly adhered to and rash driving should be dealt with very strictly.
KARACHI: The alarming rate at which road accidents are taking place in our country is a matter of grave concern and requires immediate attention. A recent survey reveals that 73 per cent of fatal road accidents occur due to the driver’s fault. Two per cent occur due to defects in the vehicle and 25 per cent due to other causes like poor lighting on the roads, flouting of traffic rules and carelessness on the part of pedestrians.
It is clear that little can be done to reverse this state of affairs without the cooperation of the public. Rules should be strictly adhered to and rash driving should be dealt with very strictly. The authorities concerned should ensure that the street lighting system is improved and pedestrians should also observe caution while crossing roads. The public and the government will have to work together to overcome this grave but avoidable problem.
