Pakistan and the Paralympics

Letter September 02, 2012
I feel disheartened to see that only two Paralympic athletes from Pakistan are taking part in the Games, says Omar.

LONDON: This is with reference to British High Commissioner Adam Thomson’s article of August 30 titled “Pakistan and the Paralympics”.

I feel disheartened to see that only two Paralympic athletes from Pakistan are taking part in the Games. We should have at least encouraged our young and brave soldiers who may be suffering from amputations to take part in the Paralympics. The problem in Pakistan is of mindsets and attitudes. If a person is crippled because of, say, an amputation, there is no avenue for that person’s rehabilitation and possible re-entry into mainstream economic activity.
