KARACHI:
This Eid, it saddened me to see children choosing to buy toy guns with the Eidi they collected and then playing with them. What surprised me was that parents took no notice of this disturbing trend and what it indicates about our coming generation. These toy guns are designed to emit plastic bullets and have a striking resemblance to real guns in terms of their colour, size and system of loading bullets.
I do not want to blame children for indulging in such an activity because they are not old enough to realise the significance of their actions. Instead, I want to draw parents’ attention towards their activities and request them to keep a watchful eye on their children and the kind of behaviour they indulge in. Parents must do their utmost to channel their children’s potential in a positive direction and must ponder the reasons why children are choosing to play with a toy that symbolises violence.
