Arrest of 11-year-old

Letter August 24, 2012
PPC Section 83 states that any act committed by child between 7 to 12 years of age cannot be deemed an offence.

LAHORE: The arrest of an 11-year-old Christian girl suffering from the Down’s Syndrome on blasphemy charges is not only shocking but is also illegal. Section 83 of the Pakistan Penal Code states that any act committed by a child between seven and 12 years of age cannot be deemed an offence as the child has not attained sufficient maturity of understanding to judge the nature and consequences of his/her conduct on that occasion. It is important that justice is done in this case and the child is released and given protection from extremist elements.
