Olympic blues

Letter August 22, 2012
I still believe that given the state of our sporting federations, winning gold and silver medals is beyond our reach.

KARACHI: Our dismal performance at the 2012 London Olympics is nerve shattering when we consider the fact that minnows like Qatar, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Afghanistan and other small countries have won gold, silver and bronze medals, while our participants have returned empty-handed.

When are we going to wake up and do something concrete about preparing for such mega events? If we intend to achieve any positive result, for the next Olympics, we have to start our preparations now. Even so, I still believe that given the state of our sporting federations, winning gold and silver medals is beyond our reach. Most Pakistanis, including me, would be content if our contingent brings back even a single bronze medal next time.
