KARACHI:
Sindh Irrigation Minister Saifullah Dharejo has repeatedly said that Sindh’s share of water is being stolen through water pumps installed in Punjab’s jurisdiction. This has been going on for a long time. It has also been brought to the notice of the Punjab government but in vain.
Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, who claims to be the Khadim-i-Aala of Punjab, is known for taking stern action on all sorts of matters but has kept mum on this important issue, both during his current and past tenures. I request Mr Sharif to take stern action against those who are stealing Sindh’s share of water in Punjab’s jurisdiction as this is creating a serious rift between the two provinces.
I also request IRSA to ensure delivery of Sindh’s share of water at the Guddu barrage instead of at the Taunsa/Chashma barrage in Punjab, as a large amount of Sindh’s water is being stolen. It must take care of the interests of all provinces in an equitable manner.
