Retirement benefits for PMs

Letter July 21, 2012
PM of Pakistan is entitled to unimaginable perks after he leaves office, even if he has served for a single minute.

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister of Pakistan is entitled to unimaginable perks after he leaves office, even if he has served for even a single minute. At the cost of the taxpayers’ money, former prime ministers are entitled to free-of-charge perks, including car, fuel, air tickets, servants, telephone facilities, electricity, personal staff and a bungalow in the heart of the country’s capital.

There is a need to change the law, which provides for such outrageous facilities for former prime ministers (including caretaker prime ministers). Only those prime ministers who have served at least three years in office should be eligible for perks. Let us not crush the already crushed masses with these monstrous burdens.
