Role of spy agencies is to protect the country against external threats and not to interfere in the country’s politics
LAHORE: This is with reference to your editorial of July 17 titled “The ISI and politics”. The main role of the intelligence agency after the inception of Pakistan has been politicking. From the era of Ayub Khan to the formation of the King’s party during General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s rule, it seems to have had its fingers in just about everything.
One can argue that it is because of these shenanigans that it failed to find the mangoes that caused the death of General Ziaul Haq and that it failed to locate Osama bin Laden who had been living in Pakistan for several years. The role of spy agencies is to protect the country against external threats and not to interfere in the country’s politics.
