Pakistan’s treasure for sale

Letter July 20, 2012
Very likely of involvement of very powerful people in this dirty business of smuggling of heritage relics.

KARACHI: Recently, the Karachi police seized several artefacts dating back to the Gandhara civilisation from a truck. The artefacts were kept in a godown in the Ibrahim Haidery neighbourhood. When the police conducted further raids, more artefacts were recovered, which were to be smuggled out of Pakistan.

The interesting thing to note is that no hue and cry was raised by any government quarters despite the seizure of historic treasures. This would indicate the involvement of very powerful people in this dirty business of smuggling of heritage relics. I hope that our police don’t one day find nuclear warheads in a container being smuggled out of Pakistan.
