I hope that the judiciary will pay heed to the wisdom displayed by many before them.
NEWARK, SCOTLAND: This is with reference to Markandey Katju’s article “Judicial responsibility and organs of state” (June 27). I agree with the writer’s contention that it is not the job of the judiciary to run the state or regulate those who are elected by the people. This is exactly what those critical of the level of judicial activism that the country has seen in recent times, have been warning against.
I hope that the judiciary will pay heed to the wisdom displayed by many before them, which suggests that judges should ordinarily avoid entering the political thicket. I trust our judges to take the advice of men such as Justices Holmes, Brandeis and Frankfurter of the US Supreme Court and, of course, the good and learned man, Justice Katju.
