KARACHI: The constant traffic congestion in Karachi results in major problems being faced by commuters every day. The main cause includes lawlessness, parking problems, political rallies and mismanagement by the traffic police. Another reason adding to the traffic blues is the VIP movement on the roads, leading to loss of precious time for thousands of people at the expense of ensuring the convenience of a few individuals. Damaged roads, non-operational signals and illegally parked tankers on kerbs have added to the ever-growing traffic congestion. To add insult to injury, people stuck in traffic jams often end up getting mugged.
In addition, the port in Karachi is so positioned that all the country’s imports and exports pass through one route, hence a massive traffic jam along this route is a common sight and the government has failed to do anything in this regard.
It is high time that the authorities concerned take action to improve the disorganised traffic system so that commuters can travel on the city roads in a safe and stress-free environment.
