It is a way of allowing all views to be heard as it involves dialogue, discussion, debate, and analysis.
BIRMINGHAM, UK: This is with reference to Shahid Javed Burki’s article “Why is democracy not delivering for Pakistan?” (June 25). “Democracy is a process of institution-building, collective decision-making, conflict management and power sharing. It is a way of allowing all views to be heard as it involves dialogue, discussion, debate, and analysis. Patience and tolerance are fundamental ingredients for any democracy to be successful because things cannot change overnight”.
Not one Muslim country, including Pakistan, is a successful democracy and that is not only because of interference from certain institutions in these countries in the democratic process but also because they lack the fundamental ingredients of patience and tolerance and are addicted to ‘messiah worshipping’, where they expect their problems to be resolved overnight by some saviour.
