The fact is that whenever the agencies are accused of anything, they demand proof. This defies logic.
ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to the death threats Asma Jahangir has received in recent days and that have been reported in the media. Ms Jahangir has said that these are coming from the state’s intelligence agencies and that she is not one to run away because of them. The fact is that whenever the agencies are accused of anything, they demand proof. This defies logic. Because they are organised and resourceful bodies, trained to investigate, the onus is on them to provide proof to the contrary. By definition, intelligence operatives are faceless and citizens cannot provide proof of their involvement in such misdeeds. When fingers are pointed at the agencies, it is in their interest to use their resources and expertise to find the real culprits so as to clear their own name.
Similarly, the ISI should on its own investigate the murder of Saleem Shahzad to clear its name, failing which we would be right in accusing it of his murder, especially because Saleem Shahzad had foretold of his fate at the hand of agencies.
