It is also the responsibility of the state to ensure the well-being of its citizens.
KARACHI: I refer to your editorial of May 24 titled “Kidnap ordeal” on the owner of the Islamabad bookshop Mr Books, who was kidnapped but luckily freed by the police. I was glad to see the editorial end with the thoughtful words “Ultimately it is the responsibility of the state to secure the well-being of its citizens, no matter who is threatening them”. However, in this intolerant and bigoted society, it would not have been out of place to have added that it is also the responsibility of the state to ensure the well-being of its citizens, no matter what religion, caste or creed they belong to.
