Conviction for helping the CIA (IV)

Letter May 24, 2012
Dr Afridi's punishment is richly deserved.

KARACHI: All those supporting Dr Afridi need to understand that his crime was to assist the intelligence agency of a foreign nation by giving them information which he should have instead passed on to the government of his own country. Yes, it is scandalous that Osama bin Laden managed to live for many years in Pakistan without any government agency detecting him but that is a separate issue for which there should be a separate — independent — investigation.

People should not confuse the two issues since they are not related to each other. By doing that, they are trying to create sympathy for someone who is essentially a traitor. His punishment is richly deserved.
