Rewarding those who break the law

Letter May 23, 2012
If no evidence was presented by the state, then what is a judge to do?

LONDON: This is with reference to Pervez Hoodbhoy’s article of May 21 titled “Lal Masjid: rewarding an insurrection”.

One important question that needs to be discussed is the evidence that was provided in the courts to prosecute the Lal Masjid brigade and Maulana Abdul Aziz.

If no evidence was presented by the state, then what is a judge to do? So this possibility needs to be explored as well. And a start can come from the media itself — it can try and provide details of the court proceedings against Maulana Aziz and his wife.

It’s very easy to blame the courts for just about anything these days.

I would say it would have been better if the writer had signed on as a witness in the court case instead of writing an article basically blaming the judiciary for coddling an anti-state cleric.
