Humour me

Letter May 01, 2012
It is high time that our actors came up with something ‘serious’ that can actually tickle the funny bone.

KARACHI: For the wretched Pakistani souls that have to deal with news items regarding targeted killings, social turmoil and political propaganda on a daily basis, comedy is one refuge that can help in escaping into a world of fantasy. However, it is a sad reality that there is lack of genuine humour content on the dozens of channels that are currently on air.

Legends of yesteryear, known for their comic timing even across the border, have long since faded from memory and all that is left is slapstick comedy and crude jokes that are irritating and offensive. It is high time that our actors came up with something ‘serious’ that can actually tickle the funny bone. Meanwhile, the poor viewer will have to rely on the numerous political talk shows and morning shows for some comic relief.
