KARACHI: I would like to draw the government’s attention towards the ever-growing traffic congestion in Karachi, which is a major issue faced by commuters like me on a daily basis. The main reasons behind the constant traffic jams on the roads of Karachi include political rallies, protests, lawlessness, parking problems, VIP movement and mismanagement on the part of the traffic police. The ever-increasing rush of vehicles on the roads is creating major traffic jams, resulting in hazardous conditions for commuters including air and noise pollution and security issues.
Damaged roads, non-operational signals and illegally parked tankers at curbs add to the increasing congestion. People stuck in traffic jams are being mugged while the authorities turn a blind eye to this issue. On top of that, commuters are surrounded by buses belching out lethal smoke.
It is high time that the authorities planned properly and took action to resolve the chaotic traffic of the city, as well as do something concrete about smoke-emitting vehicles so that, at least, we can travel on the roads of the city in a safe, clean and stress-free environment.
