Pakistan-India relations

Letter April 05, 2012
Since the Mumbai attacks in 2008, relations between Pakistan and India have remained strained.

FATEH JANG: Since the Mumbai attacks in 2008, relations between Pakistan and India have remained strained. Since the attacks, India has not sent its cricket team to Pakistan and has rebuffed our attempts at restoring bilateral cricketing ties.

Now the Indian hockey team’s tour to Pakistan has been cancelled because its government did not allow the side to go ahead with the visit. This shows that India still does not trust Pakistan.

Pakistan, on the other hand, has tried to extend its cooperation to India, not only in the sporting arena, but has also offered that country the most-favoured nation status, despite India not being too keen on normalising relations.

As a Pakistani, I feel insulted by such behaviour from the Indian side and want Pakistan to deal with them without compromising our dignity. I hope President Asif Ali Zardari will call off his planned visit to India to show solidarity with the Pakistani public on this issue.
