ISLAMABAD: I have always been opposed to the privatisation of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on various grounds but my recent visit to its customer facilitation cell in Islamabad has completely changed my views on the matter. The changes brought about by the privatisation of the PTCL, which was once a white elephant should be appreciated.
I had visited the customer facilitation cell after a lapse of three years. I was astonished to see the dedicated and cordial way the staff tended to my problem. The shabby building and rude staffers had been replaced with a clean office and helpful and considerate staff equipped with all the modern gadgets at their disposal. I had thought that my complaint would be resolved in a matter of weeks but instead it was resolved within minutes. The post-privatisation PTCL is a completely new organisation that has brought about some impressive changes.
