Negligence of merit in Sindh

Letter April 02, 2012
The PPP always uses the Sindh card to complete its tenure in power but it has failed miserably to uphold merit.

KANDHKOT: The people of Sindh voted for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the 2008 general elections with the hope that they would get ample job opportunities but the situation on the ground four years later is in direct contrast to those high hopes.

The educated youth of Sindh is jobless but the corrupt political class of the province does not have any interest in solving its problems. Merit is completely ignored when job recruitments take place since those with connections to influential people are given preference. With such state of affairs, I wonder why millions of rupees are wasted on the Sindh Public Service Commission if all jobs are to be awarded to favoured candidates with merit being ignored. Conditions have worsened in the last four years after the PPP came to power. The party always uses the Sindh card to complete its tenure in power but it has failed miserably to uphold merit and empower the educated youth of the province.
