KARACHI: I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to a very serious issue pertaining to the University of Karachi. Student politics at the university is becoming a very serious issue with many so-called students’ welfare organisations present at the institution, which are working less for the welfare of the students and more for the furthering of their political interests.
Not a day passes without a conflict arising between two or more student welfare organisations and these conflicts — which often result in law and order situations — make the environment of the university detrimental to the pursuit of education as panic spreads among the student body. Classes are usually cancelled when such clashes occur and studies are badly affected. It would not be wrong to say that such organisations are also playing their part towards spreading terrorism in our society.
