KARACHI: Pedestrian rights in the bigger cities of the country, which have heavy traffic on the roads, seem to be non-existent. There seems to be very little respect for pedestrians in Pakistan. One often sees impatient drivers honking at pedestrians and even being rude to them if they get in their way while crossing the road. Things get worse during the monsoon season when roads get flooded with pedestrians having to deal with drivers rushing by splashing water on them.
I think the main problem is that people are not aware of the rights of pedestrians and basic traffic rules. The traffic police should take steps to alleviate their woes.
