Overflowing gutters

Letter March 09, 2012
It makes us wonder why we pay hefty taxes for living in Defence when basic complaints are not heard.

KARACHI: I am a resident of Defence Phase II (Extension) and right in front of my apartment on 15th Commercial Street, the gutter overflows eight straight months in a year. I am unable to step out of my home without getting my shoes dirty in the overflowing sewage. Since there is no parking lot for our cars in the building, we, the residents, have no place left to park and this is an added inconvenience. Moreover, whenever our guests visit us, we are embarrassed to lead them inside the building with all the untreated water and waste at our doorstep.

It makes us wonder why we pay hefty taxes for living in Defence. We have made numerous complaints in the past but to no avail — perhaps now, after this appears in a newspaper, the Clifton Cantonment Board will look into this matter.
