How to win an Oscar

Letter March 02, 2012
While I agree the writer’s is a valid one, I must say that “Saving Face” shows that this problem persists in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Nadir Hassan’s article of March 2 titled, “How to win an Oscar”. While I see the writer’s point and I agree that it is a valid one, I must say that, “Saving Face” is not only highlighting what is wrong with Pakistan. It is also showing that while this problem persists in Pakistan, there are people who are trying and succeeding in mitigating it. The story of “Saving Face” is not only about victims of acid violence but also about a doctor who is giving back to Pakistan, and of lawyers and policy-makers actively looking for solutions to the problem.

So yes, while the US may be providing funding for such things and reinforcing a particular image of Pakistan, the documentary also highlights the fact that we can bring about change as a society if we choose to.
