If elections are held on a regular basis then democracy will be strengthened and things will improve.
WASHINGTON, NC, US: This is with reference to Fauzia Wahab’s article of February 24, titled “Why the PPP government is good for Pakistan”.
I am a firm believer in the democratic process because I believe that if elections are held on a regular basis then democracy will be strengthened and things will improve. In addition to this, I do think that the PPP is the only truly national political party that Pakistan has.
That said, I disagree with much of what the writer is saying. It is an undeniable fact that crime and corruption are rampant in Pakistan, that inflation is very high, that there is an acute shortage of electricity, and that even water and natural gas are in short supply. As if all this wasn’t enough, Pakistan’s international image is also at a low point and terrorists apparently can roam freely within its borders and attack innocent people at will.
I fail to see how the writer can paint such a rosy picture, given the state of the country.
