A Saudi princess speaks up

Letter January 27, 2012
I have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for several years and found Saudi women happy and satisfied.

NORTHAMPTON, UK: This is with reference to Anushay Hossain’s article of January 27 titled, “A Saudi princess speaks up”. The situation portrayed by the writer in her article is misleading. Saudi society is stable, progressive and far better, compared to societies that are Western-oriented and where teenage pregnancies and promiscuity are common.

It is, in fact, women in the west who are oppressed physically and psychologically, where they are continuously portrayed in the media as sex objects. I have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for several years and found Saudi women happy and satisfied.

My advice to Saudi women is to not be distracted by criticism levelled against their country by writers who are inherently pro-west and will see anything that happens in Saudi Arabia as being retrogressive and hence worthy of censure.
