A silver lining

Letter January 16, 2012
Pakistan’s vibrant social media tends to be dominated by those who want the Constitution to be respected.

KARACHI: There may yet be a silver lining to the present crisis. For starters, had this happened 10-20 years back, with the prime minister publicly criticising the army chief, a military coup might have already happened. The other positive point is how this issue has been picked up in Pakistan’s vibrant social media which tends to be dominated by those who want the Constitution to be respected.

There is no way of knowing how much influence this discourse has on what takes place in the real world, but many of the people active in the social media front are influential as far as shaping opinion is concerned.
