LONDON: This is with reference to Nasim Zehra’s article of January 13, titled “How a vibrant media can thwart a coup”. Pakistan’s media may be free but it is definitely biased. I am not sure that the Pakistani media gives a “fair share of public hearing and also self-examination, to all players”. The coup may not have happened, but television screens were lit up with newscasters championing for one and there were hardly any dissenting voices.
There is also the issue of many other news stories that are not covered and do not make it to the headlines, either because of lack of interest or self-censorship. The scant coverage given to the deaths of three female students at an Atif Aslam concert in Lahore is a case in point.
