LAHORE: It really is mind-boggling that the military establishment would want to engage in talks with the Taliban, at a time when the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan is said to have been divided into several factions and weakened. Isn’t this the time for the state to aggressively go after the organisation and help dismantle it completely, so that in future it doesn’t pose any serious threat to the country?
Haven’t the failed agreements and peace deals of the past shown to the government and the military that the only beneficiary of such an arrangement are the militants?
